Slab Creek Dam (National ID # CA00823) is a dam in El Dorado County, California. The concrete arch dam was constructed in 1967 by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District as part of the Upper American River Project, with a height of 250 feet, and a length of 825 feet at its crest.〔(Slab Creek dam details )〕 It impounds the South Fork American River for hydroelectric power, and is named for a nearby tributary, Slab Creek. The riverine reservoir it creates, Slab Creek Reservoir, has a normal water surface of 249 acres, and a normal capacity of 16,600 acre-feet.〔(Slab Creek, northcentral California )(click on Slab Creek, at center of map)〕 Recreation includes fishing, camping, and rafting.〔(South Fork of American River )〕 Salt Creek Dam is one of several dams and reservoirs owned by the district.
